Are you frustrated by one or more imperfections in your teeth? If so, you might be a good candidate for porcelain veneers. Your dentist can use this treatment to improve your appearance by masking problem areas to give you a perfectly beautiful smile.

However, many patients want to know how many veneers they will need to achieve their goals. Continue reading to learn more about it so you can make an informed decision regarding upgrading your grin!

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a highly popular dental cosmetic procedure that can address one or multiple issues simultaneously. These thin, ceramic shells are customized to be just the right shape, shade, and size and then bonded to the fronts of your teeth to hide aesthetic flaws. They’re often used to fix chips, cracks, stubborn stains, mild gaps, slight misalignments, and somewhat misshapen teeth.

To ensure a proper fit, your dentist must remove a small layer of enamel. That means this treatment requires making an irreversible change to your teeth because this protective outer layer doesn’t regenerate. You’ll need to have veneers or another restoration in place to safeguard your smile moving forward. Thankfully, these durable covers can last 25+ years with the right care, making them an excellent long-term investment.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

It’s natural to wonder how many veneers it will take to help you reach your smile goals, but it all depends on your unique situation. Before proceeding, you must consult your dentist to ensure that you’re a good candidate for this treatment. During that time, they’ll discuss the process and let you know how many shells are necessary to achieve the intended results.

For instance, if you have blunted incisors making you feel self-conscious about your grin, you might only need two veneers to recreate their ideal shape. That said, six veneers tend to be a standard choice because they cover enough teeth to create a uniform appearance. This is often the preferred number for true smile makeovers intended to address multiple dental issues. However, some experts recommend hiding an additional tooth on each side to maximize the outcome, for a grand total of eight.

Your dentist might recommend up to 20 hard shells if both your arches are severely shortened, flattened, stained, or chipped.

Of course, it’s also possible to have a veneer placed on the front of each and every tooth in your mouth, if that’s what you desire and can afford. The best way to learn how many are required for your desired enhancements is to ask your dentist directly!
